PlaneBusiness Banter Now Posted

Wow....I went a whole week and didn't post one other blog post.
Can you tell that it has been moving week at the Worldwide Headquarters? Actually this is about week three of what seems like a never-ending process.
But I digress.
This week's issue of PlaneBusiness Banter is now posted.
This week there is a little of this, and a little of that. First, we talk about the ongoing demand versus energy price problem.
We'd better talk about it, because the price of oil just continues to go up. And up. Friday, crude closed at $66.31. The price of oil has now doubled since Jan. 20.
Raise your hand if you'd like to be trying to figure out hedge positions for an airline right about now.
Just what I thought. Not too many volunteers.
We have a new airline taking to the skies in the U.S. this week. JetAmerica. Uh-huh. Fares as low as $9 and the airline is already banking hefty subsidies from air service starved smaller communities.
There is a new airline starting service out of the Middle East this week as well. That airline is FlyDubai, the second airline to call Dubai home. Emirates, of course, being the big player on that particular playing field.
Just what does an airline do, anyway? This week I talk about one way some airlines could pull themselves out of the commodity pricing rut they find themselves in, by actually making themselves a more valuable part of the business travel "transportation" experience.
All that and more in this week's issue of PlaneBusiness Banter.
